THE PRINT MEDIA SELECT, INTERPRET AND PUBLISH NEWS STORIES RELATED TO POLITICS, THE MOST SIGNIFICANT LEGAL CASES, AND WHAT IS CONSIDERED NEWSWORTHY IN GENERAL.
The publications are based on certain internal criteria and “journalism standards” that include numerous details such as layout, colors, front page, headlines and the organization of the stories and information. The media also include advertising of all types and different sections into which the published information is classified.
Retórica [y] Cromática is a Project in which the modus operandi is to use printed newspapers as raw materials in order to reveal other levels of political and ideological discourse; and seeks to involve color, volumetric and other aspects for the systematic destruction of all or the front pages of certain local newspapers. I reorganize the shredded paper by shade of color; I paste the reorganized fragments on the wall or on paper; and I obtain the average colors of certain publications over a given time period.
Retórica [y] Cromática [Detail]This project shows my special interest in the painterly aspects that are found in the mass media, as well as the use of speech and language in general. In Retórica [y] Cromática, processing of the information published in the print media implies a transformation that not only uses statistical-type methodologies, but can also be considered to be part of neo-formalism or post-painterly abstraction. The result of the transformation is a visual language that speaks of the current structures of the mass media (economic, power. ideological) and of their dynamics (mechanisms of operation, production processes, underlying logic).
