In political campaigns and during the exercise of power in Colombia, a phrase or slogan has always been used to identify the government. By definition, a slogan is, according to the dictionary, a brief and original formula, used for publicity, political propaganda, etc. It can be said that politics in Colombia is condensed in a slogan or motto. The slogan is repeated incessantly and it is sought to be repeated and disseminated by all government followers. In turn, the Presidents’ speeches are full of “catch phrases”, and the same advertising strategies are used as with mass consumer products. Slogans, in all cases, are “catch phrases”. In my work I use as a support a message-passing device with LED light. The device is typical of advertising, especially that which is exposed to the public in the streets and is associated with information about vulgar and common products. The text is programmed and repeated indefinitely at a given speed. The apparatus reproduces the slogans, mottos, and names of the Development Plans of most of the governments of Colombia since the last century, which are repeated indefinitely. Also included are “drawer phrases” from some of the presidential inauguration speeches. With my work I intend to show the use of advertising strategies and mass consumption in the management of politics, and the empty content of their messages.
